Hmm, interesting. Did the study say exactly what chemistry they did the study on? Lithium Cobalt based? EDIT: NVM, didn't see you posted a link. Article doesn't say much of anything really.
I would presume higher oxidation potential has something to do with it. (operating voltage range), one of the reasons nano-phosphate A123's has such good degradation over time.
I would like to see a study on the latest generation of LiPo cells. Should be interesting.
