I would guess that the times are quicker with the MMM for two main reasons:

1. The MMM has a little lower resistance than the MM, so currents to the motor will be higher (and thus, more torque).

2. The MMM has a more sophisticated back-EMF circuit and a faster processor, and can lock timing earlier than the MM. (and thus, higher torque earlier...)
