Yeah, looking back it is kind of ridiculous that I have a $400 SSD in a $300 netbook, but I've dealt with the headache of a crashed HDD, and the money was well spent IMO. I would never put an SSD in my desktop (at least not until they become cost-effective) but laptops and netbooks are far more exposed to being dropped or smashed, so I wanted the extra insurance for my data.
On the plus side, it did noticeably speed up the boot-up and read/write speeds. And for my $400 I got to send away a rebate for a limited edition Intel Mini Maglite and toolkit (est. value probably $5-10 LOL!) I bought a cheap external enclosure on Ebay and now use the original 160GB HDD as a portable external, where I store stuff I'm not as concerned about losing.
