I would bet the problem people have with bead locks is installation vs actual design/manufacturer. It's easy to screw up putting them in if you don't make sure the bead is in all they way around.

What I want to see more of are the RC4WD stamped steel bead locks. The are the easiest to install and hold the best in my experience. They look awesome, the price is fantastic (40 for a set of 4 1.9 bead locks) and they are fairly light for a bead lock.
