Troy, Scott and especially Bob are some cool guys, and their tracks are second to none. Dont let your insecurities about running with strangers deter you from at least trying it out. Everyone I have ever met in the hobby has been pretty cool. They are having the monthly fun run at LargescaleRC on Sept. 25. I will be there, if you wanna make the trip. With me around you wont have to worry about anyone noticing your bad driving
Thanks Obeast! I went to high school with Troy & Scott... and they are great guys, no question. I grew up in Monticello, IN...

I'm not blasting your reply AT ALL.. but I wanted to give an example of how being in that situation makes me feel. Granted, it sounds like I'm over thinking it, and perhaps I am to a small degree. But just for kicks... here it goes....

Example: I've been a professional musician for a long time. I sing, play guitar, drums, whatever. I play live all the time and in front of hundereds of people staring at me. I have zero problems with this. Now... let's say for instance you "play around with guitar" enough to know a few chords, and let's say you're an "average" singer. Even better, you have expensive taste. So, despite not being a very good guitar player that doesn't stop you from wanting nice things. So you happen to have a $1200 guitar that your not good at playing. So, wow's about I invite you and your expensive guitar up on stage to just jam with us???? "Come on man! It's ok! It's FUN! No one cares bro. Just go with it and do the best you can." Whether it's in front of 5 people or 5,000... the point is the same. Actually, it's even worse if it's in front of five people. I'd rather play for a lot of people then I would ONE person sitting in front of me.

So yeah.. you might say that you'd laff it up, and suck all over the place and that you don't care... but really.... how much "fun" would that be really? Wouldn't it be so much more fun if you were able to actually get thru the song or nail it? Now, maybe us band dudes would giggle a bit, but we wouldn't judge you because we know the deal. But that wouldn't necc make YOU feel any better.

Personally... I do not enjoy showing those who are strong at something, just how BAD I am at doing the same thing. Golf is the main one. I could be a good golfer if A. I cared about golf and B. Took the time to really learn. So, when I get invited to golf, which is often, I don't go. Period. Because I've learned that even good golfers thing they aren't very good. And it's NO FUN being literally RANCID around people who are not.

I know that driving on a track is difficult if you've never done it. My friend has bashed for a long time and can drive well. But when he recently went to a real track for the first time to drive, he was shocked at just how rotten he was at it. So, to have guys that I personally know standing around watching me drive my $1000+ trucks around and doing badly... doesn't sound like fun at all.

Now... let me drive on that track over and over and over until I can get used to all the jumps, and how the truck reacts, and dial in my setup, and basically get a feel for it... and it would be a different ball game.

I KNOW that Troy & Scott pretty much expect a guy who's never driven on a track to do all that great, and they would be the only guys I would do that in front of because I know them. But until I felt more comfortable driving on a track, I sorta feel like staying away from them. You can't learn unless you do it, I realize that. But it's not like it's "just down the road". It's a three hour round trip!!! It would be different if they were across town, that's for sure. I swear I will make it up to that track, and I'll likely drive on it, and I'll likely be horrible. And perhaps I will go with you?? I don't really like the idea of driving my truck around not knowing what I'm doing, because aren't there a bunch of other dudes driving around too?? I'd have to worry about staying out of the way just as much as my own driving skills! It would RULE if there were like four guys there or something. I don't know a lot about tracks and when then open up for the public. You can't just show up, pay, and drive can you? That would rule! I know some tracks have "open" night, but it's not all the time.

Thanks!
Jason
