hell for that price, you could get a VERY nice laptop, you just have to know were to look
my laptop was under $600 and will play ALL modern games...
most refurbished ones aern't worth the $$, they are usually older models for a few $$ less than the new ones with the same specs, and its used
do you have a .edu email? if so, you can pick up MS office/win 7 pro for $80/30
EDIT: have you used vista since the latest updates? it is 98% of what win 7 is...
