Exactly, why in a ship that size would a fire in one area have the ability to shut down the whole ship. Seems to me there should be a better design. Of course these are the things that happen when ships are registered and built outside of our own soils. The cruise ship industry purposely does this to avoid US regulations and taxation. While in some ways I understand this in others it puts people at greater risk.
Carnival does a piss poor job at looking after it's passengers that's for sure.
Also the last report I saw only said the entered the harbor this morning and that it would take several hours to get it docked and several more to get all the passengers off.
