To add to what Arct1k said; the ESC itself can run down to a 2s, but it wouldn't be appropriate for a 1/5th scale vehicle. For one, the RPM would be so low on an appropriate motor, the truck would barely move. And if you did get any decent speed by changing the gearing or motor kv, the amp draw would be far too much for all of the components to handle.

By going up on voltage you can produce the same amount of wattage and with a lower amp draw. As an example, a motor that is pulling 2500 watts on an 8s LiPo, would equate to approximately 84 amps. The same amount of wattage on a 4s setup would be approximately 168 amps. This is calculated as Watts = Voltages times Amperage. So 2500 watts divided by 29.6 volts (8s) = 84 amps; and 2500 watts divided by 14.8 volts (4s) = 168 amps. Higher amp draw increases heat, wear on the batteries and increases the chances of over-stressing the motor, ESC and/or batteries.

I would only recommend a 6-8s setup for the Mamba XL and 2028 on a Baja type vehicle.
