Yes, it does help with space issues. I was wondering why they did not come out with this sooner.

I will say it is better to run the biggest pinion you can as you will experience less pinion wear as you get the pinion and spur closer to the same size.

However I plan to run a plastic spur on this truck as it will not be much heavier than a std savage. On the 5t I will run a steel spur. And I have to run a smaller (17t) pinion on that truck as the motor mount wil only allow so much adjustment and I want the 1717 motor closer to the centerline of the truck.
