You're more likely to encounter significant forces that are trying to push the adapter onto the axle rather than pull it off. If you look at the diameter of the adapter itself, theres quite a bit of thickness there that the pin would have to rip through to get it off. I'm not saying its impossible to do, but it would take some doing.
