Not sure if those kershaw pinions are hardened well enough to use in the application you have.

A 10-12t pinion on a 54t steel spur is going to rotate 5 times per 1 rev of the spur. So you will get 5 times the wear if you consider the same material. So the pinion will have to be 5 times harder to resist wear.

I would turn the shaft down and use rcm pinions. There are none better than the rcm.
