Well I'm dumb. Not sure what I input wrong when I originally calculated what spur and pinion combo would work with this motor, trans and mounting plate, but I clearly got it wrong

Turns out I needed a 65T spur, not 58T

because the can hits the trans before the gears can properly mesh.

65T Spur on its way! Live and learn, haha
