I would not even think about using an L sized motor in your car, the S is more than enough.

For a speedcontroller, and the fact that you want to use Lipo, i would personally take the MGM controller, it is meant for car use. I ordered an MGM too, they seem to be as smooth as possible. plus they have the ability to be programmed to do a shut off when the lipo's voltage drops underneath the 3 volts per cell.

Your question about the Lipo-cells from towers.. what lipo's? got a link? The 8S can take quite some current from your lipo's. so you need a few good ones.

If you go for an 8S 4S lipo is just too much. 3S is insane on the 8S.
