The 9L runs well on 12 or 14 cells. It will have a slightly longer runtime than the 8L, given the same cell count. The 8L will be a touch faster. The controller has a BEC, and if you are only running 12 cells, the UBEC isn't necessary (nor is a receiver pack). The UBEc will supply a slightly higher voltage to the servos, however (slightly more speed and power to the servos).
The motor mount is not necessary, but it is a nice option and makes for a cleaner mount in my opinion. One motor and controller is more than enough power (*either motor).
