If they are end to end (AKA stick packs), then they might be built using thin nickel strips between the cells that limit the current that can flow through them. What you can do is take apart these packs and rebuild them in side by side format for a lower resistance.

Having a stick pack won't make your HV-Maxx run hotter, it'll make it run cooler since it has less of a load.
