Hmm, if it's supposed to work in XP, then that usually means some sort of other program or even a driver conflict. If compatibility mode doesn't work try making sure you are running the program as "Administrator". This will solve any permissions issues. Also, close all other programs; especially firewalls, Antivirus, and Spyware apps (you might want to disconnect from the Internet before you do that though). You might want to see if you have any special printer software running in the background that might be holding onto the port. Lastly, this may sound stupid, but are you sure the port is enabled in BIOS?
