By 8 pole, I assume you mean there are 8 electromagnets (4 pairs) energized at any one time time as opposed to only 2 electromagnets (one pair) on a typical inrunner?

I noticed that on both of my BL motors (8XL and 10XL) that if I turn the shaft by hand, I can feel two distinct magnetic "detents" in one rotation. This feeling is stronger in the 10XL. Does this mean I would feel 8 detents in one rotation for an 8 pole?
