Cant hurt to level it out. I havent had any isses as it is though. It might be more of a problem if you run a single servo and are pushing the arm at more of an angle like that. I'm running a dual steering servo setup so one is pulling while th other is pushing. In a single servo setup in one dorection you would be only pushing on the arm and I would expect that might bend over time. Especially if you were using one of those crazy 300oz servos.
Having the rods level to the arm is definatley the better way to go. Is it necessary.... I havent had any problems.
