You will absolutely strip it. I stripped mine with a novak ss5800 1st pack, so...yeah. Easier to do it first then do don't have to spend a bunch of time digging out shredded plastic bits.
As far as the binding goes, you may want to double check the spur/ pinion mesh. I've noticed that sometimes the spur wobbles a bit bc its not quite even and the mesh will change as bit from one side of the spur to the other, casuing the pinion to be too tight into the spur. At least this has tripped me up in the past.
