Its hard to tell from the pics exactly how much was cut off if you dont know what the rustler tranny looks like. In pics 3 and 5 you can see how far up i had to trim away so the heatsink would fit. Its cut away all the way around to the very bottom screw that hold the tranny together, the screw that lines up with the lower clamp screw on the clamp. Trimming that much away, and not making a motor guard like mine would MOST likely result in the motor slamming into the ground when you jump it. The guard i made has taken some landing from 15+ feet and hasent bent at all. I finally stripped a spur gear today, after around 30 packs through it, and thats the first thing on the drivetrain that has failed. :D
Even with that much trimming, you wont be able to set a proper mesh with anything smaller than a 87t spur/17t pinion, it just doesn't fit. As you can see i'm bumping it up to a 90t spur.
Before you all ask, no, i dont use the stock radio, that just happened to be sitting there for the past few months ;)
