Funny you mentioned the XLB. I was just handling one yesterday while I was working at Hobby People. XTM is Hobby People's store brand, so we carry everything for it.
I haven't driven one or seen one drive, but just yesterday a guy who owns a XLB came in for about the 10th time to get a replacement 1st speed spur gear (plastic). Of course you could do away with the 2-speed and do something different.
If you do decide to do the conversion, you would certainely have plenty of chassis space!
