The Flextek suspension systems are quite good and reasonably priced and as far as I've heard, all of those who have them really liked them.
Brushless motors do not perform well with stick packs- speed will be very poor. You should use batteries with thick metal bars which stand high apm draw.
The higher the number in any motor like XL9-XL12 means more torque and less speed. So, 9 turns is faster than 12 turns, but less torquey.

Well, I disagree here a tad, it would depend on how many cells you are throwing at it. A 10xl can be just as speedy as a 7xl, it would just take more cells. As far as stick packs, yes, break them down and rebuild them into side by sides with "mike's" battery bars he sells.
CF - well, have bashed the crap out mine with no problems at all.
