That's why I didn't like that article so much as it gives people bad information about motor selection. I started a thread about it a while back.
Basically the setup is for a speed run only to put up good #'s for a BL setup to show off the potential power. However, if you read that article and the one for the Frack Design LST, they both say the motor gets burning hot quickly. Not good if you plan on running your truck longer than 5 min.
I did 48 mph reliably in my ERevo on 5s. The motor stayed cool driving on dirt and pavement, but did get to 170+ running WOT in the grass. I was overgeared by 1 tooth on the pinion that I normally run as well.
The 8xl will do that speed fairly reliably, but you'd be even better off getting a more eff motor or running 6s and a lower turn to be really safe in all driving condidtions. An 8xl should do ~40-42 on 14 cell on stock emaxx on 14 cells rereliably.
