what temp does mm thermal at? - 03.31.2008, 08:16 PM

Hey everyone. I figured i could get the best most reliable answer for my ? here. Im running a new emaxx 9xl with a small heatsink. 14 3300 gp cells. 22 pinion stock(68 spur) and mm with no external caps and no fan. and a reviever pack to run a single steering servo. Within a few min. of good bashing the motor gets up to 160. mm gets up above 200. and batts hit 160. If i keep going. after another couple a few temps on the motor(endbell) hit 200. mm is over 3 bills. and batts are over 2. I have had the mm thermal before but i didnt check the temp so i dont know what it was at. I have heard 170-180 is the max you should run the motors at. and 160 is around the max you want batts to hit. So what should i do. will dropping a tooth on the the pinion gonna help that much? should i get a fan for the mm. or will one of those novak caps work. I also read a thread that running 4 smaller caps is better. any ideas? I already turned the timing to min. but that didnt seem to help at all. It didnt seem to hurt performance either. Im realy happy with the set up. It downright rips, But i dont want to fry the mm, smoke the batteries at throw a magnent all at the same time.
I can run 12 cells but that takes some of the fun away.

how much room do i have before the esc thermals? and any idea to help on everything else. And dont tell me to drive slower im not looking for mpg on my car :P

I don't think your entire system should be running that hot. I'm not familiar with E-Maxx gearing, so I don't know if you're geared ok or not. Have you checked your drivetrain to make sure it's not binding somewhere? That would cause the current draw to be much higher than normal, which would heat things up. Also, what is your runtime on one pack?

The thermal temp is set at 100C, or 212F

So if it sizzles, it shuts down. :)

So im confused, your saying 212 but i have seen mine over 300. Does that mean mine if malfunctioning because its not shuting down? I know the drivetrain is running smoothly but i did read that someone had the screws too long and actualy cut into the armature. I will check to see if that the problem i dont haveany cogging issue. And im realy happy with the performance. It pulls wheelies thruout the pack.(crossing my fingures)

I dont know how long a pack lasts i usualy shut it down after the temp go thru the roof. They dont seem to be too short. I would geuss more than 10 min. but i cant say for sure.

300 would be a problem, I think. Are you sure the temp gauge is correct? That's really hot.....

I have temped mine in the 220's without a thermal, but that's not so far out of spec...

well i turned it sideways and put a fan on it. and now it barely hits 100. Its seemed to help the motor too. its getting upto 160-170 but not 200 like before. of course i might just being paying more attention to it now.So that makes me happy :)
