esc help - 05.19.2010, 09:27 PM

i have a monster mamba with a busted BEC and i need some opinions on future installments....

a little info..... i spoke to a castle tech today and he seemed to think it was a busted/cracked BEC component.

when i turn it on i get the start of a chime, but it just stops and then i get really slow steering and very little throttle. then if i pick up the esc, sometimes it will work normally. then others, it won't even work. just a blinking light.

what's weird is when i turn it on when i'm trying to bind my receiver it goes into a full turn on and arm sequence. but as soon as it binds, it goes into the cutoff mode again. i tried another receiver and radio , but it does the same thing.

that reaLLY sucks because i had about 2 inches of foam under the esc to protect it from shock.

i opened it up just to see if i could see anything overt, and nothing was obvious.

i think it's a V4 (the board was blue).
anyway, is there anything else i can do?? this really sucks guys. this is the second one in 2 weeks, just this esc's FIRST run.

the jump was no bigger than about 4 feet!!!!!!!

i should have asked the tech this when i had him on the phone but i had a 3 year old needing lunch.

1)should i cut a hole in the bottom of the case where the bec is so it's got room to flex??

2) maybe a foam strip inside the case under the bec?

3) no case, just pack it in cotton and duct tape??

4) if i run an external BEC, will it still work if the BEC inside breaks from shock impact again?

IIRC The internal bec will still need to power on the esc. So if it's out, an external one still won't work.

That's right. The MM circuit needs BEC power and if it's not generating it's own, it will need an external source. When the V1's were blowing BECs left and right, an external one could be used but required some modding of the circuit board. However, a modification of this level will SURELY void any warranty. Even cutting the case may void the warranty, so I would check with CC before you do any extensive mods like that.
