mamba 4600 capable of mutiple runs on 4s? -
04.24.2008, 04:47 AM
i was wondering if this was possible because i have an idea for my next project...and i was wondering could this motor handle it?
let's just say it's a 2wd truck/off-road(main use) and will sport mm w/fan,ubec,and hv cap from novak probably get a 3,4,or 5k mah pack for the job...most likely i'll go with 4s 5000mah and 4000mah as i see many bl projects popping up for me in the future

well as long as u dont over-rev the motor you should be fine. the esc can handle it. u might want to ad a Novak capacitor to help absorb voltage spikes though

One of the castle reps on here said that the MM esc cell rating is based purely on the max cell rating for the motors that come with it in their packages. So if they say you can only run the 4600 at 3s, I wouldn't want to push it beyond that - 4s puts it at nearly 70,000rpm which is beyond the recommended max rpm of even the high quality hand wound neu motors.

Actually CC said that the bearings on the brand new MM are rated up to 100k... 70k might be ok... question is if the rotor will shatter - heat will be a big factor IMO...

They are upgrading the rotors too, good for 100k.

It's funny that CC rates the 4600 of 12 cells or 3s lipo. Voltage drop of NiMHs aside, 4s=12 cells voltage-wise. However, I think they would heat up during prolonged runs at that speed.

CC always take a good margin when they rate something, If it can take 100 k rpm that mean you can really push it to this speed

Are they wrapping the rotor or something? Or changing them to a smaller diameter?
I vaguely remember Patrick saying something about the CM36 motors getting a little "revamp".

Current rating is 65,000. The boom point is 85,000 rpm. 4 * 3.7 gives you around 68,000, only a couple thousand rpm over the "limit". I'd say it'll be fine.

i agree with sleebus. thats without load, withought the drag of the drivetrain, and without wind resistance

Zing, there goes my magnet. With a decent load it will be fast, and a good place to keep your hands warms, or cook some bacon, yummy!

well what motor would you guys suggest for safe 4s/3s lipo runs it's going in a future project so i wanna get the details worked out now so that i can just toss the setup in...i only had this idea because i saw a video posted on u tube with a 4s/4600 setup and was wondering but he's only doing speed passes...i'll be bashing and running mine on a course which of course will create more heat...I don't want to spend a lot on a motor so i'll prolly get a l can feigao...we'll see...thanks for your input fellows
