Well make that 4 dead V3’s. I had two V3 and the first died after 4 or 5min on the track. I think the fans are causing a lot of the failures. So I removed the fan from the second one and ran it. It has now lasted trough about 15 batteries. I’m hoping it keeps up. We need to really push the manufactures to remove the fans from the ESC. Fans are a major problem. If it means running 22.2 volts, then remove the fan and set the ESC specs at 22.2volts.

Why do you think the fans are causing the failures? Is the wire rubbing thru and shorting out, thus killing the internal bec?

I am holding my breath, In hopes that thats all the failures and that they are flukes. I would just like a nice 40mph truck thats reliable. Is that to much to ask?

Why do you think it was the fan?

A fan in itself shouldn't be the reason for any failure. Like Linc said, the only obvious way a fan could possibly cause a problem would be by shorting out due to pinched insulation, but Linc's re-routing of the wires fixes that. Still, sorry to hear that your MMM's died. :(

looks like they should add fuse to bec output circuit, so that when something fails (shortcircuit) it wouldnt burn bec...
when replacing that fuse, you should see if there's something wrong.

Even if the BEC is shorted, it should just send the circuit into a cycling condition, not fry...

I haven't had a chance to run my MMM yet (away for a business trip) but I did bring it along. I mentioned this in another thread, but I was amazed to find how sharp the edges of the circuit board were. The insulation on the fan, receiver out, and switch wires can easily be cut and cause shorts. A suggestion to Castle going forward would be to add another 3mm of clearance on the side of the case where these wires pass the circuit board and perhaps cover them with shrink wrap as well.

well if thats the case, you should smooth edge with sandpaper etc. just to make sure...

...or just use an external fan design and have the fan plug into the PCB via a servo plug...

Did Castle say it was the fan? I still got the original fan on my V1 (even though it is missing 2 -3 blades)

I know people hate on these, but.... go NOVAK HV! I have had a 6.5HV geared 16/68 and I get 38mph. I have raced hard for 4 months and have not had one single problem. Not one.

Lays it down pretty good at the track against truggies. Mines the one w/ yellow dishes and yellow wing.

I had the 6.5 and the 4.5 and both died on me. I have had the many of 5 sets of there 10th scale ones too and only 2 still work. So there track record with me has not been so good. I was running a mgm/lehner setup and its been reliable but sold it.

Yeah I had 2 x SS5800 systems and didn't like them at all. Much perfered the Mamba Max

Had the ss5800 too and the it died a orrible death when I plugged the battery in (took 5 months for warrenty to fix) so I bought a shultz and a lehner 5300 and OH MY GOD it had 10X the power. I also bought a hacker c-40 8T (5300kv) and it was not as powerful as the lehner nor did it have the runtime that the lehner did(it wasnt a huge difference like 30 to 45 seconds more runtime and a hair better power delivery from the lehner) (both the lehner and the hacker still work) Heck my feigaos that I bought 5 or 6 years ago still work

tedo, I'm with you on that one. My HV pro hasnt missed a beat, I've beat the crap out of mine in a E-Revo for months now. If you stay within the recommended gearing ratio's your rewarded with almost 40mph. I did have a MMM V1/1515 1y in a Emaxx a few months ago till I sold it, and its power was simply amazing! I wouldnt mind having a V3 combo soon, but for now cant complain too much.
