Which crawler to buy? - 12.17.2008, 05:37 PM

Hey guys, im thinking of buying an AX10 crawler, but im not really sure which to buy, the AXI90001 Axial Scorpion kit or the AXI90004 ARTR Axial Scorpion.

I kinda like the body and colour sceme on the artr better but im not sure which one has better features and I would take features over looks.

I am new to the whole crawling scene and dont plan on competing with this crawler its just for fun, but I dont want junk either. Is the Scorpion a good way to go? The price seems right and there is a lot of hop ups if I want to take it a step further.

The Scorpion is probably the best crawler to buy right now. It's highly upgradeable, which makes it capable of different things (trail truck, comp crawling, etc). As for which one, I would say the ARTR would be better to buy than the kit. I remember going over this same question with a customer at the LHS, but cannot recall my reasoning.

SH Z-Car, Custom Crawler, 8s Savage, 12s XTM XLB 1/7 buggy, 4wd 4-link rear/IFS Pro4 truck, Custom Hyper 10 Short Course, Belt-Drive Mammoth ST 1/8 truggy, 4s 17.5 MM Pro HPI Blitz

I was thinking the same thing, the ARTR, comes with 2.2 Pro-Line Hammer tires with memory foams, rear axle lockout, Hi-Clearance Rear Links and I kinda like the body and colour scheme better too.

What electrics would you recommend, I'm looking at either the Novak Rooster or the Tekin crawler system, or do you have a better idea?

Well I picked up a used Axial Crawler on the bay today! I think it was a pretty good deal, it wasnt an ARTR, but a kit version that comes with everything to run it except TX and RX, which is no biggie.

Its not brushless, has the Novak Rooster and an Integy 55t motor, Integy shocks, Nimh batts mounted on the front axle and a Hitec servo (not sure size) all for a $250 buy it now, seemed like a pretty good deal to me, what do you think?

Sounds about right - I think I paid 245 for mine with a 55T, a MM and 645... and then the upgrades started... several multiples of purchase price later...

I wish this had an MM in it that would have left the window open for any motor I might want to run, oh well, the Novak will have to do for now.

What upgrades would you recommend as manditory things that you need to do?
