New Product Idea - 04.20.2009, 09:23 AM

Ultimate Crawler ESC...

- Dual ESC's packaged on a single board - i,e, One battery connection and two sets of motor connections
- Brushed and brushless (sensored and unsesored) motors
- Switching BEC (Adjustable)
- 2/3s Input
- 3rd Channel - Custom motor profiles i,e, dig or
3rd channel for independent ESC control for those running stick
- Stronger drag brake...
- Waterproof
- No onboard caps - Makes footprint too big

Castle has almost everything to make this a reality esp if you drop the sensored motor requirement which is optional in many respects....

Just sandwich two Sidewinders with the swtiching bec and a little adaption to the brains board for dig and you are done...

Now can I get one to test for coming up with the idea...

I was thinking along those lines just the other day. Would be perfect!

I was looking at Mtronic's a long time ago (like three or four years) and they had something similar. it was more for tank turning style vehicles. I think this would be a great idea for crawlers and there could be a steering wire, that could hook to the steering for tank turn setups. with castles outstanding programming it would be easy to setup for normal or tank steering

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

"Tank mode" could also be accomplished via a circuit that mixes the throttle and steering servo channels and outputs two throttle channels.

There's a company in Taiwan that has a ESC like this. One sigle unit controls 2 brushless motors. They told me back then that their ESC was going to be used by HPI, but HPI went with a better product.

Edit: I just looked at the company and it's just for one motor, the ESC has connections for 2 packs and I thought it was for 2 motors. The website doesn't have an English page and the photo looks very confusing.

A 2 motor esc that used input from ch1 and 2 to perform tank-like steering would be cool... Have the mix built in to the esc programming, that way any 2ch radio system could be used.

I like this idea, not sure how many would sell though. Maybe good for entry level robtics? I would have a larger scale version of the blizzard myself!

Linc - It would sell well for all the moa crawlers - bergs/clods etc...

Not in tank mode per se but with front and rear dig - basically you could use the steering and thottle for tank mode and Aux and throttle for front and rear dig :)

Or Aux and throttle for independent motor control for those using stick controllers...

Once you have the package together I think the software would be blinking simple stuff really....

Come on Castle - Does anyone come here any more? I havn't seen patrick in months... Did you get tied to the chair for offering up the demo motors/controllers and then not releasing them?

Kinda like this, you mean?

Having a dig feature built in would be cool, like tap forward fast 3x for front dig (same to disengage), and tap reverse 3x for rear dig.

I would like to have several with tank mode for my tanks.....

I would buy at least two more for crawlers too, especially if waterproof!!!

I would want the two ESCs separate. Real estate is hard enough to mount one ESC on a crawler, let alone two units combined as one that would be almost twice as big in one direction or volume.

A better idea for castle is to get the MMax pro out first.

JR not sure I agree i don't think it would take up much more space - you only need one brains board and fet boards can be stacked... Take even a MM apart there is so much room esp if you externalize caps...

6 phase wires, two sensor ports to exit the case. That will be a nice chunk. The brain board will still need double the fet drivers. The controller will need twice the channels. Probably not twice the size there, but it depends on what is available. Double the fets, double the need for heat dissipation too.

The only thing that I see that doesn't add up to additional volume is the single case and single BEC used instead of two. Sure we could build it with smaller components, and sure the MM had plenty of air in the case- but if the parts and design are held constant you still will have very near a double volume controller with twice the chance for parts failure.

V-twin brushless setups would become popular again if someone would develop a single ESC capable of running two brushless motors. Then the ability to independently control either motor for dig operation would be most desirable for crawlers and tank owners alike.

Hmm...yea, I'd buy one or two.

Cheers.

This is not possible. It would have to be two ESCs on one board. Why bother? Just buy two and do it now. We aren't going to do this...
