Hyper 10 SC 4x4 - shock setup? using 8ight front shocks - 11.20.2009, 11:45 PM

So I got my Hyper 10 SC yesterday and she is a better truck than I had expected. I already own a Mini STe so I knew about what I was getting into; but the new bumpers and plastics are VERY nice indeed. Super thick drive shafts very sound parts. At any rate, she ships 90% set all you need to do is glue down the tires, build the shocks, paint the lid and of course install electronics.

Medusa 50mm 4800kv (12t to start)
Castle Mamba Max ESC
Spektrum Micro Rx
Hytec 985MG

Let me just say I'd rather have a box with a pile of parts though.. LOL because the second I got it I had to rip her down clean out the grease in the diffs and get some standard fluids in there. I use 2k rear, 5k center, 5k front. Before I even finalized the pre-order on this truck I knew I was also swapping out the stock shocks (stock shocks are usable) to Losi 8ight front shocks all the way around. It takes all of two seconds to install these in place of the stockers; drill out the hole in the shock tower for losi's stand off's, pop out the losi ball for the 10 sc balls and install the stocks. Couldn't be easier.

On to my question.. oils and springs?

I started with 45wt & black springs for the front, and 40wt & silver springs for the rear. Dropping her on the ground from a few feet up she seems a little soft for outdoor racing, may be ok for the indoor races, but for the outdoor 1/8 track it just won’t do. Any thoughts on a better setup? I know the stock ofna setup has all 4 shocks exactly the same for oil wt and builds, even the suggested setups are the same. I was thinking about going with a green spring and 50wt oil all around and see how she feels... if I don't get enough response out of the greens go to all black springs and stay 50wt oil.

Here are a few teaser pics and thanks for your thoughts.. PS those are not the stock tires, the stockers are sweet though as well.

looks like a good truck, wheres the body on shot, some of us are curious to see what the seemingly silly front bumper looks like...

Nothing to be torn about.. this truck is way better iMO. Slash 4x4 is MT style and has the same old crappy suspension that is on the bandit & rustler.. they should have introduced their first real set of shocks w/ this puppy! The OFNA is stock w/ alum chassis, shock towers, shock bodies and sooo sooo much more. It's funny every "hop up" for the slash 4x4 is stock on the OFNA, and the 10 SC has even more.

LOL ok just kidding!! HEHE

That truck looks awesome ! Definitely a lot lower CG than a 4X4 Slash.

Weight fully assembled w/lipo ?

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

Not sure which will be better.. the Mini STe is better than the CRT.5 so.. I'm not sure one will have an advantage over the other or not.. bet they are pretty similar. Anyway I've only driven it around the house, have not had a chance to get to the track w/ it, not sure if I will bother running it outside as dec6 we have a indoor 'offroad' race, and it's for 'dirt free' vehicles only. So it maybe next season before I do some serious racing on a outdoor track. I'll know the performance in a race by Dec6 at CRC's indoor offroad race at the very least.
