G2r race class - 01.17.2007, 10:45 PM

I'm getting into racing competitively with my G2r when it's done. Does anyone race theirs? I was talking to my friends that race nitro now and nobody knows what class I would run in. I've ran a race once before with my revo(nitro still) and I ran with other revo's. I somehow don't thinks theirs alot of other G2r's waiting to race and I haven't heard of an electric monster truck or truggy class yet.

Electrics are not as popular as nitro, but everybody here is committed to changing that. I race my G2R with the nitro guys (we don't have enough people to have pit guys) so we run five mintue heats. I may not be able tio race for a while with my electrics( they don't allow Lipo's ) so i'm waiting for the day i can run them ragged

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

I race with the nitro guys since there aren't any other electric MT's around. They don't care what batts I use, I just have to make the mandatory pit stop(s) during the Main's.

I don't see how club races would care if you run Lipo's or not. It seems pretty lame in my book. Thats like saying you can't run 30% nitro fuel, you can only run 20% or less. Or you can't use O'Donells fuel you have to use Traxxas Top fuel.

Besides, Nitros are better than electrics anyways... right?... :030:

Well, the track owner is afraid of the dangers of Lipo's, and they have a rule limiting stadium trucks to 20% nitro. We got a few flyboys that tell horror stories about big fires and damage(no injuries, thankfully), but the track owner says; if he allowed them and somebody got hurt it could ruin him.

But he said i can use them for practice and play time between heats, so i'm going to prove how safe they can be, and how powerful they are. My aim is to get enough people behind me to push approval at my track. I already told him if and when he allows them i'll draw an outline for safely handling themand even do some teaching if necessary. but its inevitable that they will be allowed eventually

I can see his concern but practice is usually worse than a race. There's usually goofballs on the track at practice time running there trucks around like crazies (no pun intended :005: )

A Lipo pack isn't a stick of TNT. Heaven forbid a pack did go into thermal runaway there would be time to do something about it (get it into the open and let it do it's thing until the flames stop. :035: )

I suppose you could also race with your packs in a Fire resistant lipo sack

When managing a store etc, it always helps to have insurance as well :p

Anyway, good luck

I charge mine in a battery bunker and never charge without one, so if it blows its contained. That would be the main rule for running lipo's if allowed. The track owner seems to like the A123 cells and the LIMN so might get in by that way
