question about brushless motors - 04.14.2007, 05:49 PM

Hi, I have a hopped up e-maxx, @1200 into it, it has a Novak 4400 brushless and running 2 3300 Nimh packs with Dean's I am only getting @ 10-15 min of run time, Is this Normal? I also have a Mini Lst with a 8000kv Mamba and a 8-cell pack and I am getting more like a 1/2 hr on the lst. I am just wondering if it is the Novak Setup, or would it be worth it to go to a mamba max for the E-maxx?, Right now the emaxx wheelies on demand and is fast!, but I would just like to get longer run times, Anyone have info?

That's about right. You could increase it a little by being a little more gentle on the throttle when taking off or accelerating, but what's the fun in that? :) Or, you could reduce the weight. Your mini-lst is much lighter so it takes less energy to push it. Think of it this way, both a Honda Civic and a school bus can get to ~70mph, but which one is gonna require more power and energy to do so?

Really, you just need batteries with more capacity (mAh). If it takes X amount of power to push a vehicle the way you want, it will still take this power no matter what system you put in it. You could get some 8Ah lipos and almost triple the runtime with the same or less weight.

If you're running two nimh packs in series, going with a couple of trakpower 4900 lipo packs will get you better runtime and more power. I'd venture a guess and say that you'd get about 20 minutes on a pair of trakpowers, maybe more. If you go to the 8000mAh packs, runtimes really get up there. I've been running the 8Ah packs and I usually get tired of running before the battery goes out.
