Whats a center diff kit? -

I just won a roller on ebay and it has a center diff kit. Can someone explain what this is? Will I need it for my brushless conversion?

a center diff allows power transfer front/rear, it aids in cornering and helps in preventing wheelies. if the fluid in it is to thin it will unload to the front. center diff is on the left:
