Seized a motor bearing in the CRT.5...and - 03.16.2008, 10:14 PM

totally bent the front drive shaft. Unfortunately I was at full speed down the back straight when the motor bearing seized. The car lurch forward and stopped quite quickly. The drive shaft was bent bad, but I don't think there was any other damage.

I have the RCM Extended Chassis kit and I'm pretty sure the front drive shaft is the same as the rear. Ofna only sells them as a F & R combo. Does anyone know if there is a properly sized drive shaft I can buy as a single? How about some cool aluminum or ti shafts?

How long is the drive shaft you need in mm?

Ofna lists the rear shaft as 82.5mm and the RCM ext chassis is supposed to use (2) rear shafts. I tried some searchs for 82, 82.5, and 83, but did not find what I was looking for. Most companys just list a drive shaft as a replacment for "X" model, and not by length.

Worst case scenario, if you can't find the rear drive shaft by itself, you can always just send Mike an email to send you another... but I'll keep my eyes on look out for one.

Contacting Mike probably is the best bet. I'll drop him an email today.

Could try

The thick HPI ones could have clearance issues though - I noticed with the ext chassis I think the centre diff has moved very slightly, and theres SFA clearance between the front shaft and the chassis brace.

Thanks Sammus!

I was searching under drive shaft. That's how Ofna lists them. I'll have to measure the ball end of the shaft. I'm pretty sure it is about 6.0 mm.

Ah yes, there is always the ball end diameter... didn't think of that. If you don't have one to compare, I'll grab one of those savage centre rears off my bro and see if its anywhere near fitting.. wont see him for another few days though.

I measured the ball end diameter and it is 5.9mm. I also noticed that the rear drive shaft was bent too. I sent and email to Mike. Hopefully he can sell me the 82.5 mm shafts. The Ofna kit is $13 for a F & R and now I'd have to buy 2 kits to get 2 of the longer shafts. I'm a little miffed at Novak right now. Plus Novak does not seem to sell a bearing kit for their motors without also buying a new end bell. What's up with that?

Hey I found these as possible replacement drive shafts for RCM extended conversions. They are from the Hot Boddies LS10 and measure 83mm x 6mm. The original shaft I got with my RCM kit was a 6mm instead of 5.9mm. I just filed the ball end a small bit and it slipped right in.
