Thanks to gcurtis2121 I now am the owner of a brushless maxx. My question is with the 9918 controller should I run a UBEC? Will this cut down on heat from the controller?

I am running 14 cells with a 9l motor. The controller seems to run hot, not sure of the temp. The reciever seems to be a little glitchy for a lack of a better term after running a short time. The steering servo also does not have the amount of power I would expect.

Get an UBEC! Can't go wrong. 35 bucks well spent, IMO.

I have one on all my trucks, and I love it. No more BEC or rx-pack worries. And you always get the full 6V to the servo.

I don't know if it affects the temp on the ESC, but it won't hurt. A fan on the ESC is also a good idea.

May I ask what gearing and tires you run?

Yah a fan sounds like a great idea, any suggestions, or just use a computer fan?

You may want to invest in a small temp guage. They only like 25 - 30 bucks. 125 degrees is hot to you but is comfortible to your controller. Just a suggestion. I say get the ubec for sure though. Even at 150 degrees you can get blisters but the controller is safe. That is one place I messed up when starting out. Just trying to pass on my experence.

I think I will try sticking a RX pac on the reciever to see if the servo operates any differently than with the 9918's BEC. This will give me a better idea of what the problem might be. I think I will stick my venom temp gauge on the truck to see what everything is running at as well. GCurtis2121 said he had measured the temps with his gauge and they were fine. I have no reason to doubt him, I just want to be safe. Thanks everyone for the information, the last electric I had was my optima, I'm a little out of date, allthough the optima still runs and so does my hornet.
