Converting Revo to Electric - 04.18.2008, 12:31 AM

Well there is a lot of threads in here that deal with converting Revos ,but I couldn't find exactly what I needed. So I made my own thread.

I'm new to electric R/C (I do know electric know how just not in R/C).

I've been deciding to convert either my LST or Revo to Brushless and Lipo power and I decided to convert my Revo.

I plan to race my revo and want to reach at least 40-45 mph top speed with my truck. I also want to have nice runtimes that I can race with. 25+ minutes.I'm guessing for the ESC MMM when it comes out.
What I'm wondering is what motor and battery will satisfy my needs ,but not break the bank.

Oh and I also am planing to use the Tekno R/C conversion.

My 9XL with 4S 8000mAh pack tops out near 40-45mph. It's really more about gearing than anything else.

Mine runs about 45 with a 7xl and 4 cell 8000mah lipo. I would suggest using a 9xl cuz it doesnt run as hot. But what your going to need is a, unless you build on by youself, A conversion kit. I got one from techno. Your gunna need a ESC, external BEC, Motor, Battery, and soldering Iron. You might also want to order the robinson racing steal gear kit and depending on the tires you got you might wanna order some more. Also for you esc you should get a fan. I might be leaving something out but thats it for the most part.

I've been looking at the 9xl as well. It looks like you get a lot of bang for your buck with it and most people converting their revos seems to use it.

Since I plan to use the tekno conversion that means I'm using the Revo transmission. What gearing would help me reach those speeds, but still allow me to have good torque. I was thinking of keeping the 2speed intact ,but as far as spur gear and clutchbell goes what are you guys using.

Thanks.

Whoa where did that come from first the Slash then ERevo. I guess I know where i'm going now.

Well umm thanks for pointing that out.

I'm still looking at both options though. I've yet to seen how much the E-Revo is worth considering that i'll probably replace the stuff in there anyways.
