Hacker Master Car Sport??? - 04.16.2008, 09:08 PM

Now that my mamba max has totally fried. I am in search of a new esc that is more capable. And my friend has the perfect esc, the Hacker Master Car Sport! It is a little old but is just as good in technical advances, and it has much higher amp ratings than the mamba max. He has tested the esc with his warhead and Savage 25 (both huge trucks) and it ran cold! I mean cold, not warm, cold! And on 5s lipo, I will only be using 4s lipo. So I have very high hopes for it. I will be able to get some pics later. I'm just wondering what you guys think of this esc ONLY. I will be getting it for $85.

If you can find any more info on this esc please share, I have not had much luck. Thanks

In my opinion for what you can get a new mamba for i would get a new mamba. You dou know that castle has a $50.00 flat fee no ?'s asked policy for non warranty repairs.

I know that. But the master car sport is capable of more amps, which is what I want. And from experience it runs super cool, which is totally oposite of what my mamba was doing.

I am not trying to be disrespectfull but I belive that this esc would be better for what I am looking for, is that not correct?

That was my other option, but I am saving up for other things right now and would like spend the $85 instead of the $170. Although I really like the mmm as from the looks and stats.

You must have not been around in the days when Hacker Master Car Sports fried left and right in monster trucks. The Hackers where better known for smoke than getting cars around the track. Not to mention that to send one in for repair is a pain and takes a long time.

I would wait for the Mamba Monster, better investment in my opinion, plus CC's support is second to none.

hi

basically the master car sport and master car race were made for the use in normal 1/10th scale cars. logically it says on the case 5-10 cells or 2-3 lipo. now of course thats with the BEC. so if you cut the BEC then they may be used with higher voltage as so many other escs. i remember one guy that had an e maxx (3906) running a master car race with a plettenberg maxximum on 12c with good results five years ago. i guess he had also an external bec. i am not sure. the controllers back then had both logos on the case "hacker" and "jeti". today they are sold under the "jeti" flag as far i can see it.

in 2003 those escs were called 'master car sport' and 'master car competition'. i guess the competition is now the 'race'. of official specifications then were 66A current for the sport and 111A current for the competition. if that is still correct then at least the official specs of the sport are lower than the MM.

i have also read this interesting setup of your colleague running the master car sport in a savage ( and he mentioned to try then in his warhead) with 5s and reporting cool temps. i guess his nickname is 'takedown' or the like in rcu. to be honest that is somewhat surprising. however if it works its great.

the quality if those controllers is quite high imo. for instance the case is full aluminium. they are said to be smooth and you can set a 'current limit' etc. i have a master car race here i may try with 4s and an external bec in an lightweight MT (revo) and see how it does.

so i guess for 85 bucks you may give it a try with the 'sport' but nevertheless i would watch the temps closely.

bye

Sometimes Towerhobbies has specials on the Jeti car controllers. The last one they had was $78 on the Race controller.

Lutach the Jeti Advanced Car Sport/Race is a lot different than the Hacker Master Car Sport/Race. The Hacker is bigger and has 2x as many FET decks. Total of 58 for the Hacker and around 25 FET's in the Jeti. The hacker has (2x) 50v caps and the Jeti has (2x) 220uf 35v caps. Not exactly sure of the "uf" rating on the hacker as of right now. I've ran it with the Savage 25 on 5s lipo with a Feigao 8xl with high gearing and it ran ice cold. I programmed it perfectly and its running extremely well. I am 100% satisfied with it. It works fine with 1/8 conversions IMO. I am very proud to own a quality ESC.

Plus Im letting him test it out in his E-savy before he makes his final decision so that if he doesnt like it he wont get screwed over.

I thought they were the same mainly because Jeti makes most if not all of the Hacker's controllers. That is even better news for us who do own the Hacker controllers . Now if someone would only run a Hacker Master Car with 6S and post a report here so I can feel even better would be great .

I really am looking into a 6s for it but it probably wont happen. I just figured out the specs but couldnt find the burst amp rating. Its 96amps continious.

Oh ya and the Hacker has 4 programmable motor modes. Mode one- 2 pole motors "Feigao/BK" etc, mode two- 4 pole motors "Neu", mode three- 6 pole motors "Plettenberg", mode 4- multipole motors "Axi".

^^This is right out of the instruction manual.
