HPI Baja 5B clones...? - 04.21.2008, 09:29 PM

They look identical... even the colors (purple theme). The only thing different I see is the body.

What do you guys think?

Edit: I just looked at the HPI website: http://www.hpiracing.com/kitinfo/10600/ and even the length, width and height are identical to the exact cm.

It does look 99.9% identical- the fuel tank cap looks slightly different I think, but the rest is a clone, and a good looking one too. Im watching the one ending soonest to see what price it goes for- how much is a new & used Baja5b?...

Sure looks like some serious patent/copyright infringement, don't tell me HPI doesn't patent their stuff?

Kit is $920, rtr is $975 on Tower. I haven't seen any used ones.

Hard to prosecute overseas companies (assuming that's what is being done). Either that, or a company paid HPI for the design (highly unlikely)...

These have been around for a while now. From what I have read no one has really been able to test the durability as the engines are crap. Someone on one of the baja forums went through one they had been given as the engine had blown and compared the differences. They are a lot cheaper material it appears. HPI has release info on this as well and are taking legal action.

Sounds like you get what you pay for with one of these. And when HPI's legal action catches up with them, you're likely to have no parts support.

In the end, you're going to be better off getting a real one.

Stay away from this bulshit, my friend got one, bushing all around instead of bearing, cheap plastic, thin alum main chassis, damping in shok is not adjustable.

You got what you pay, and for me, this clone is 100% scrap. And the motor seam to have the power of a .15rtr nitro engine
