7XL Gears - 09.26.2005, 04:51 PM

Does the 7XL require a certain pinion type, or can any general 540 size pinion fit?

It takes a 5 mm shaft size pinion.

Peace!

Thanks, my next question is.

What gearing would you reccomend the 7XL for 14 cells? Is the stock strobe sliper alright to use?

For stock wheels and diffs, try a 14 or 16t.
(funny, I just wrote this somewhere else. Deja vu)

Wow, you lost me, lol.

I will be using Maximizer/Robinson gears.

So a 14t 5mm pinion and stock spur?

Oh, sorry, I thought you said strobe slipper (which uses mod1 spurs)

As for stock 32pitch, I use 18/66 or 20/66.

If you running the stock diffs. Running the strobe slipper with 51 tooth spur use a 14-16 tooth pinion. If running the 32 pitch gears run the 18-20 tooth with 66 spur.

Maximizer/Robinson are the diffs. They use stock gear ratio. Where as if you were to use UE's diffs, the gear ration would be different and you would have to gear for it.

You said something about using the strobe slipper.

The Strobe is way better than stock especially in a higher HP motor like the 7XL. Only set back is that you have to use the 51T mod 1 spur gear and you have to use mod 1 pinions.

Its no setback really as Mike has all the pinion sizes in stock most of the time.
Do your self a favour Nick and get the Strobe, Mod 1 is the way to go

Mod 1 is stronger, more material, bigger teeth.
And the strobe+ the Sprong is about the best slipper out there.
It was designed to take the power of the big block nitros, you can actually dial some slip in without the whole thing melting.

Why would a stobe slipper effect the pinion type? Or can you get Mod1 Spurs?

the Strobe only takes the Ofna 51 tooth spur and that is Mod1 pitch.
