Which ESC for Slash? - 04.26.2008, 08:53 AM

I'm planning on purchasing a Slash from Traxxas when they are available. I'm debating which ESC to choose. The new Mamba is just about out and is very cheap. I could also go the VXL route. What do you guys suggest?

There really is no need to buy a Mamba Monster for the Slash. A regular Mamba Max combo would work great, either the 4600 or 5700.

I think the sidewinder would be more than adequate. It powers my CRT.5 without even getting warm.

I want the ability for serious over kill though. I figured with the new mamba I would have that ability plus there would be no chance of heat build up. Am I wrong ion my thinking?

If you mean serious overkill as in spent more money than was necessary and have more power than is even remotely possible to use, sure, it'll be that. You have to remember that the Slash is a 2WD vehicle and traction will be a huge limitation with the vehicle. I highly suggest sticking with something like a 4600 or 5700 combo in order to maintain a decent level of drivability.

I would say that a vxl motor and a sidewinder running 3s lipo would be my choice. I actually have both and will buy a Slash when they hit the shelves!

Im going with the Mamba max and veleneon motor on 3s, its too fast for the 'pede so should be really nice in the bigger Slash. Can always go to 4s if it runs too well and I want to get it hot so I can have something to complain about.

Won't be any point running 4S+ lipo in it so probably go with a sidewinder and 5700?

That would have some serious power! I have a tube frame buggy, about 7th scale and it has pede suspension and tranny. I run a 9l on 3s and it easily does 45mph. If it had traction it would wheely! I have a vxl motor here, so that is what i will use!
