Re-wiring for running without UBEC -
05.28.2008, 04:13 PM
Short history: I have a Fiego 10L/MGM12012 system that I burnt up the UBEC on about a year ago. I never got around to ordering a new UBEC. In the meantime, I've been fighting with a new HV-Maxx system that I have never had running yet. So I'm going camping this weekend, and would like to have at least one rig running, so I'm contemplating setting up the Fiego/MGM without the UBEC. My memory must be on some kind of stimulant, 'cause I cant remember what I need to do to set it up this way....anyone have a diagram? Not having the UBEC will only have the batteries die down quicker, correct? I think my only other option is to stop and buy a pair of Titans and throw those on the rig (none of my LHS carry UBEC's).

You do mean an external UBEC right? In which case, you dont have to do anything! So long as the redwire is re-inserted into the Rx lead from the esc, you just have to plug it into the receiver like normal, and the built-in BEC of the MGM will power the radio and servos. If the toasted UBEC is still connected up, just de-solder it/ cut it off of where-ever it is soldered upto, and toss it in the trash.

Thanks man.
I tried doing just that. However, when I turn it on, there is a 10 second pause, then I get a solid green light on the ESC, and a steady beep......beep.......beep from the motor (it keeps going.....). I've read through my instructions on the MGM about 10 times, and cant decipher what that means. I tried reversing the connector at the receiver, reversing the switch on the transmitter (I'm starting off trying to use the stock Traxxas transmitter).
I'm wondering if when the UBEC fried, if it may have damaged the ESC??
Update: After searching through the forum, it appears others have had this issue at times, but no authoritative diagnosis has been found. I tried switching a two of the motor wires. I also swapped in my DX3 radio, and no luck......but it appears that I'm not getting voltage to the the reciever (the light on the DX3 reciever did not come on). Just to verify, I can add a reciever pack correct?

No problem to run a receiver pack.

Yeah, I tried that too last night, and no good. Still get the continuous beeping.

Try disconnecting the esc and just using the rx pack - Do you get a rx/tx bind - do the servos work?
Then ensure red wire on MGM removed and plug into bound rx and then turn on ESC / plug main battery in.
Let us know what happens.
