Brushless Wild Dagger

Hey guys,

I was hoping you could help me. In a few months I plan to go brushless in my ultra-modified Dagger, called Cold Fusion...and no i'm not mad, lol! A while ago I posted about this on the RC Zone forums (as Mike might remember) but my truck has changed since then, so I just want to check that the setup I am planning will run well.
I won't go into all the details of my Dag's mods (I'll be here all day), but it weighs about 4.0kg, is wearing Maxx Masher meats, and has a final drive ratio of 18:1. For those of you who don't know, the Dagger is a relatively light, dual-motor 4wd IS truck which uses twin gearboxes, with a motor on each.

And I was planning on running two Feigao 7S motors, each controlled by a Warrior 9918 controller and running on 7-8 cells per motor.

Would this setup run ok...I don't want to buy it only to find the motors or speedos overheating, or the truck underperforming. Thanks for any help!:)

Got any recent pictures! I would love to see this thing run. You won't have any trouble with heat on the setup you suggested in the dagger. They are pretty sick little trucks! I don't carry the 7s, but the 6s or 8s will work fine in that vehicle. I ran an e-maxx on dual 8s motors with 8 cells once and it was rediculous! I can't even imagine a wild dagger with a similar setup! You mentioned that the dagger weighs 4Kg. Does that include the batteries? If not, it seems heavy for a dagger. Either way, the 9918 will not even be challenged in your truck running a dual system. glad to see you made your way to the RC-Monster Forum!

Thanks for the quick reply Mike! I don't have any recent pictures of my truck right now, but I'll try and get some soon and I'll be sure to post them here. You are right, 4kg is heavy for a Dagger, but Cold Fusion is full decked out with all aluminium extended suspension, chassis, and the Maxx tyres add a fair bit. A stock Dag will wiegh about 2.5kg ready to roll, mine weighs around 3.5kg right now...but I imagine it will be almost 4kg with the twin batts and speedos. I can post full specs of the truck if you want.

I can't wait either for this thing to get brushless...she's had a lot of down-time lately due to modifications and stuff, though brushless still won't come for a while yet (my job contract just ended).

Thanks for your interest too! Most people just shrug off the Dagg as a trashy little truck with a rubbish spec, but with some mods (or a lot if you go all the way) they can be awesome trucks.:)

I agree. A lot of people underestimate the wild Dagger and its potential. Even stock, they are pretty fast. I would love a full spec sheet on yours. It sounds like an awesome ride. When you get the recent pics, post 'em here. I would love to see this truck.

Yup, I'll post pics the moment I have them. For now I'll post the full specs list, so here goes (it's long, lol):

-Full rubber-sealed ballraces
-Polished Aluminium RC Guy Chassis with 1" extended wheelbase and twin batt slots, with 'Cold Fusion' hand engraved on the radio plate (not the best job though)
-4" aluminium threaded oil shocks (with Orion 45wt oil), custom mounted at 45 degree angles on the front gearbox for maximum progressive effect, maximum articulation, minimum weight (no alu shocks towers needed) and low CG. Modified rear shock tower
-Metallic Blue Shock Socks; they are brilliant at keeping the shock seals protected from dirt/mud
-R2-C2 Extended Aluminium suspension kit with extended, toughened dogbone driveshafts
-Lunsford Titanium Punisher toplinks with GS captured ball ends all round. Allows for adjustable camber and is just about indestructible, and lighter than stock
-Lunsford Titanium Punisher extended turnbuckles for steering
-Hitec 625MG steering servo with a Kimbrough Large servo saver
-Integy Aluminium C-Hubs with lightweight kingpins, and ballraces in the C-hubs for silky-smooth steering movement
-Integy Aluminium Rear Uprights
-Integy Aluminium Front Steering Uprights
-Proline GMC Sierra LP Maxx bodyshell
-LRP F1 Pro Reverse Digital ESC
-CPU Fan cooling for ESC
-Venom VSM
-Deans Ultraplugs on Batt/ESC and ESC/motor harness connections
-2x Team Orion Orbital 2R Pro BB 14T motors
-2x Team Orion purple aluminium motor heatsinks
-7-cell Sanyo 2000 batt packs (soon to be upgraded)
-RPM StableMaxx Monster Clawz Maxx rims (blue chrome)
-Thunder Tech Racing Clod-Maxx wheel adaptors/wideners
-TG10 Hardened Long Wheel Axles
-Tamiya Steel drive hexes
-Custom air-intake cooling system for the ESC (tho this isn't installed right now).

I think that is about it...and she still isn't finished! Mods to come include new, better shocks (maybe Integy MSR5's) with additional Proline Bypass shocks custom mounted on the rear at a shallow angle for improved progressive effect on the rear suspension, as well as a Maxx bellcrank setup, again, custom-fitted...then, of course, BL...the list goes on. Sorry, I talk too much!

Oh and just one last question...would the 7-cell Integy 3300 batt packs on your site hold up to a BL setup like the one I'm planning? Thanks.

Wow! Can't wait for the pics! Thanks for the kind words about the website. Myself and a few others have worked pretty hard and continue to work hard to make it what it is. The 7 cell batteries on the site will work fine for your planned set-up.

Hey man. Wow this is an old thread, lol! I did post some pics, but right at the second I'm making some fairly big mods to the chassis and those pics are outdated anyway. Once I've finished modding the chassis (might be finished by the end of the day) I'll post some new pics. Thanks for your interest...though she *still* isn't brushless yet. I got turned down for another job :( so it could be a while yet...

I know I late. :D I was reading threw some of the older threads. Looks as if you got some time and money invested in it. I am not sure what a dagger looks like. If it has alot of pretty aluminum and stuff. It has to look good. Is that the only rc you got?

Well I got to admit, yes I have spent a lot of time and money on it, lol. It is the only RC I have, but I'm pouring most of my time and money in to it...and when it is "finished", then I'll buy another RC, start modding it, etc. Of course I'll still drive CF a lot.:) Anyways, here are a couple of pics:

I'm afraid I haven't got any remotely up-to-date pics of the truck with the shell off. But since the list of mods above, I have modified the rear diff to accept a TNX spider gear (so it's now bullet-proof), put in a 30,000uF power cap system, re-built the truck several times and put in 70WT shock oil. But the main thing is that I have been *intensively* modifying the chassis to be lower and lighter. Here's a pic (sorry about the quality):

That is a big difference from stock to yours. It is nice. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the pics to. I like that gmc body. Looks like a crowd pleazer. I like them to. sounds like a killer idea :L: , but id watch out for stripped gears running that much power, i dont know how strong the trannys are in thoughs things, but any who thats still a sick idea:cool:

Thanks a lot guys! :D The Dagger trannies are really very, very tough...the gears, although made of nylon are really wide. I don't know of anyone who has ever stripped a gear (and I hope that doesn't change with brushless lol!). I've only ever busted a rear diff spider gear once, and now that's been replaced with a bigger TNX one with some modding.
