Me and My Axi-Maxx Video's! - 01.27.2008, 07:35 PM

I'm still impatiently waiting on the 2 speed kit for my Axi-Maxx. In the meantime, we're having some fun stuck in 1st gear.

Did someone say this AXI 2826/10 looks a little small for the Maxx?

These Vids were made running a 4S Lipo setup. 15C Firepower 4000mah packs. They give me about 25 minutes runtime.

As you can see, it's VERY torquey! There's still plenty of room for another gear!

Using Mod1 Gears, a 40 tooth Revo Spur and a RCM 22tooth Mod1 pinion, she gets around pretty good. The New E maxx is tough.

Here is what's under the hood!

Now for the Action!

Looks nice! Any special magic needed to get the revo spur/slipper working on that?

Thanks Tashpop!

Nope, No special magic required. It's a direct hookup.

22t pinion with a 40 tooth spur is a close fit for motor/tranny clearance. You can go up to 25 tooth on the pinion but you can't go down in tooth count.

Ah very cool. Welp, if I start grenading spurs, I'll know what change to make!

It certainly performs well enough for a smaller motor, but thats the beauty of outrunners I guess. Squeals like a stuck pig when theres no load on the motor (jumping), completely different noise to what Im used to hearing...

nice job sike! i must say, i chuckled at 1:15 min. mark of 'axi-maxx 4' vid. it crashed off camera, and was followed by a 'oops'.

i suspect a lot of the extra noise is the new tranny, with all metal gears. at least, that's what sounds the most different from what i was used to in my maxx.

Looks good Sike! The quark does not seem to have any issues getting the axi turning!

I should have the aquacraft powered maxx finished in a day or so, my shocks just came in. Time for some fun with wiring!

Thanks Guys, I appreciate it.

When the two speed becomes available I will get the wide ratio set installed.

First gear will be even lower, so I'm sure I will step up to the 25 tooth motor pinion that I have.

2nd gear should be awesome. I'll get some more vids as soon as I get the 2 speed kit.

I am still wondering about the gearing in the 2 speed.

it lists 18t input and 21t other gear
and 13t input and 26t other gear

The 18 and 13 go on the input shaft, obviously. What do the 21 and 26t gears do? Are they the output gears? The outputs are listed as a pair of 33t gears with a drive dog carrier and spacer.

I am wondering if the 21 and 26t gears are the idlers, and are different to maintain the correct spacing between the input and output gears? That does not make much sense either as the stock gearing is 18t and 33t. So the close ratio would be identical.

So I guess that they are geat sets, the idler must be positioned differntly to maintian mesh. It appears that the 20t idler is used for both.

That would make the close ratio 2:1 with the stock 1.83:1
While the wide ratio is 1.16:1 with the stock 1.83:1

This would mean that the stock ratio is the 2nd gear in the close ratio and the 1st gear in the wide ratio.

This is all kind of fishy to me. Does not really add up. I guess we will have to see when it comes out!

And I really need to start paying attention Here is the two speed explained!

Ok, looked at the pics and the 1.83 is going to be second gear. The 1st gear is a double reduction gear set, as opposed to the single reduction of the current gear setup in the tranny. So there are actually 4 gears, and 2 share the same axle, so the reduction is a bunch.

Plus it is not an auto shift, it requires a 3 channel radio to operate.

Looks like we will not have the killer 1.16 ratio for 2nd gear. Poo!

I guess that my ponderings were actually worth something.

Heres some pics

parts layout

cut away drawing

Notice the double gear on the rear gearset.
