Howto: Make your NEU dual-front bearing :)

I've reasently had problem with the front bearing of my NEU 1515 2.5D, after just 2-3 h divetime it was done and I had to replace it. But I found a good way of preventing this from happening again.

I use a rc-monster frontplate but I make the hole a little bigger so it accept a 13x5x4 bearing, I also have a 1mm shim between the bearings to get the motor bearing sitting right. Then this bearing will protect the motor bearing taking all the dirt, simple and works good to. And simple to replace this beaing instead of the motor one.

Have tested it and it seems to work good. No dirt is finding my motor bearing again. ;)

Maybe Mike should make these plates with a 13mm hole standard. ;)

Im sure that is something Mike could offer as an option on the motor cover/faceplate, costing a few $$ extra to cover the cost of a good bearing.

If you order the front Neu brake spacer to the place of the front cover, you don't have to use spacer to hold bearing in place, because the front Neu brake spacer is 6mm thick (and the frontplate is only 4mm) so you can mill it to 5mm and you keep a lips to keep the bearing in place.
Good idea, if i keep my brushless, i'll do it with my front Neu brake spacer

True that if you had a lip it would be pefect. Think it is even possible on the "normal" fontplate, since all bearings have a little angeled edge so to say.

If Mike would make this as a package it would be great, plate with lip and bearing in one. Perfect protection.

That is a really good idea. A fraction more drag but it would definitely help the front bearing. Are the bearings that hard to change in the neu.

When you want to keep mechanical brake, you need to space the motor from the motor mount to clear the rear caliper brake.
So what you have to do is order the normal Neu frontplate
from RCMonster but leave a note to Mike that you want the brake spacer to the place, and he'll make it to you, no additional charge
THis brake spacer is 6.45mm, so you have lot of space to make bearing hole and keep an 1.4mm lips.

I'm thinking a 5x9 bearing may fit without altering the cover, and a 5x10 bearing would only need minor mods - smaller, cheaper bearings that the 13x5x4, and easier to come by most likely(especially the 5x10). Cool mod, though. :)

The bearing is very easy to change on a Neu, too much easy
The rear back plate on a Neu is hold in place by so little punch mark, that you've just to take a little flate screw driver and put it in the little notch and pry.
Now you have the rear bearing in you hand, just pull out the rotor, and carfully push (by the interior of the motor) the front bearing with a punch.

For me, the rear back plate could be better hold in place on a $250.00++ motor

The new Neu motors have larger bearings and the rear endbell is secured by screws - same as the Tekno version, actually. I had to modify my files a couple weeks ago to make the rear covers fit over the screws. :)

OK.....i hope that the 1515 2.5d/f that i just to order from A Main is the new version.

So the only differences between the newer Neus and the Tekno Neus is the sealed ends and the color?
