Mamba Max fan??

I am contemplating running a fan on the Mamba Max due to me going to be running 4s on it with my Neu 1.5d. I have a MMM on order but you know the deal with that. So my question is what fan and where does it plug into? I am going to be running the CC BEC as well. Thanks

I used 25mm novak fans. They plug into the receiver. If you are running the 1.5d, you will want to run two fans. One on the heat sink and then cut a hole in the case and run one blowing directly onto the esc board. The 1.5d is a very powerful motor and pulls a lot of amps, so you want as much cooling as possible on the ESC.

Two fans doesn't make much sense to me, particularly since the heatsink is bonded directly to the FETs, where all the heat is generated...and they're only on one side. Not to mention your mod will most likely void the warranty. There are people running HUGE motors (Neu 1527 1D) with the stock setup and have had no heat problems.

I'd run it first before hacking the crap out of the case.

Thanks that is the idea I have. If I have heat issues I will add a fan. Thanks for the input.

I suspect you will need the fan(s). I used a Y harness to hit the batt slot on my Rx since I needed to plug in a PT too. I cut the +/- wires from the CC BEC to the Rx and spliced in leads for my fans there. Had a couple of Integy (yuk) heatsinks with fans sitting around and used those. One already died, but there cheap and Integy, so what would you expect. 30x30x6.5mm 7.2V is what I had, and BEC is set to 6v so i ordered a couple of 6v ones to keep me going until my 3Ms come back. If you don't beat them to death I suspect they would last a little longer anyway.

I used a Novak fan on my MM that plugs into the receiver. It lowered my ESC temps from the 135º-145º range to around 110º running on a 2s lipo

So you lowered your temps from perfectly fine to really low, and got to waste runtime because of it. MMmmmmmmmk.

No problem man. Many times people waaaaay over-react before they see how things are actually going to perform. I like to see how things work first before i hack the poo out of them. :)

Wow what a negative attitude. The tiny amount of current the fan draws is not effecting my run time at all. Even if it did with summer coming on it would be well worth the piece of mind it gives me knowing the ESC is staying as cool as it can.

i agree with dad. seriously, that extra cooling would probably add to the efficiency, and you would probably get a longer life out of the MM that if you had no fan...

4s on MM in 3905 with Neu 1512 1Y, geared 18/68 (with CC BEC) runs in the 140s with twin fans and holes in the case. Loose one fan and it thermals in a couple of minutes, so I'd say the twin fans are what I need on mine. Heat increases resistance in electrical circuits/systems. If you can keep it cooler, you will waste less power on internal resistance, which will cause more heat as resistance goes up. Do the fans IMO.

2s??? So you finally came over to the dark side? How do you like the performance of the lipo over the nimh? I think I'm going to get me one of those fans for mine. I've hit 200+ more times than I havent. Is that the one they have on tower?

He will need fan(s) for sure. For the second fan (if needed) he doesn't have to "hack the crap" out of it. Just some holes. Running 4s voids the warranty, so that's not an issue.

You may get away with one fan, but the 1512 1.5d is a very power hungry motor and is very demanding on your ESC and batteries.

I race my rc8 which tends to be harder on the ESC/motor than just bashing/street runs, so two fans is a little extra insurance. My temps dropped about 10-20 degrees from the second fan on the bottom of the ESC. I have never thermaled my Mamba.

It isn't hacking up anything. Just cut an equally sized hole in the bottom of the case for the fan and screw the fan on. Takes all of five minutes to install.

I've been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. Just trying to save you a future headache.

Yes I finally went with a lipo. I like the longer run times and cooler battery temps most of all I like the difference the weight saving made in the way my truck handles.
