Any experience with the Hyperion EOS 0610i Duo Dual

I am looking for possible charger options for future use and i currently own an ICE. I am very pleased with the capabilities of the ice mainly being the ease of use, battery memory, ability to charge up to 4s lipo, and the data display screen. Currently i only need to charge 2s lipo (6400) but later i might go on to buy a 4s or 5s pack. I came across this charger and was pleased that it could charge 2 batteries at once which i like because it can cut my charging time in half.

I have a few questions regarding the charger.

1.) how is the ease of use compared to the ice
2.) would my ofna 18amp power supply be sufficient enough to power the charger or what kind would i need.
3.) is the screen easy to navigate and does it show as much info as the ice (batt stats and such)
4.) am i missing anything, does this sound like this could suit my needs or am i heading in the wrong direction. what are your recommendations?

I never had a Ice but had many Superbrains and the Hyperion Duo is much better and easy to navigate.

X2. Big thumbs up for the DUO.

I have the Duo's cousin, the 0610iNet and also own an Ice. I find them both different, but both easy to use and pretty intuitive. The biggest complaint I see on the Hyperion chargers is lack of a good manual. The manual is a 6 pg document you dnload off hyp website. The Ice manualis a nice booklet and provides a lot of background and helps you understand whats going on with a particular battery chemistry and its charging.

There have been 2 firmware updates to the 0610INet and Duo chargers adding features, increasing safety and providing more detail from the charging process. This is a feature the Ice does not have and makes the 0610iNet and Duo chargers capable of being even better chargers in the future with further improvements in the firmware.

If I had it to do again, I'd the a Duo, my thinking at the time was the 0610iNet would give me 2nd charger with my Ice so I could charge two batts at once. I still run a lot of NiMh, so its no big deal and I now can easily do two pacs at once with the 2 chargers. But as I seem to be shifting more toward lipo, I would rather be doing those with Duo.

answers to questions
1.I have never uswe an Ice, but very easy IMO
2.I have the 0610i and the Ofna 18amp PS and it is more than enough power for a 6s 5000 pack, but might not be enough to charge 2 packs at once, I would try it and if not enough I would go to 30 amp PS
3.Yes

does anyone know the specific amp rating that is necessary in order to use the charger to its full capabilities (2 6s 8000mah for example). i would probably never use the charger to do such a thing :) because i don't even have one pack that big but for future reference i want to know what i might need and where i can get a good but not overpriced supply. Also is there anyway to figure out how much amps the charger is pulling from the power supply based on what you are charging that way i could do the math and see ahead of time if the power supply would be sufficient before charging 2 packs. thanks again for the info.

to charge my 6s 5000 packs it takes about 130 watts and my PS puts out 14v which comes out to just over 9 amps
and the PS I use is this one for just under $100, make sure the PS is ov the cc/cv variety

A little late to the party here, but those are the two chargers I have. I love the duo. Not that I dislike the Ice, I just always have two packs to charge and the options afforded by the Duo are awesome. I'd rate both on the same level as far as user interface. The upgradeability of the Duo is a double edged sword, It's a nice feature, but you have to have a special cable which I was not aware of when I ordered mine.

I use a 25 amp Radio Shack power supply and have not run short on power yet. The most I have charged at once though is both outputs at 5.3 amps. I should test the power supply with both chargers on it at once and see how it does.

this is the power supply i have also for my ice. is there any coorolation between the amps you charge a battery at and the amps the PS puts out. for example if your power supply (ofna for example) puts out 18 amps does this mean you could charge 2 packs at a 9 amp charge or am i on the wrong train of thought.

I would look at total watts if you have a PS that could put higher voltage you can get away with lower amps....amps x volts = watts, the Hyperion 0610 can put out a total of 250 watts while the duo can only charge 180 watts per pack for a total of 360 watts but the 180 watts could charge a 6s pack @ 6 amps

OK thanks. BTW you guys just mentioned charging the batteries on my power supply before i purchase a bigger power supply to see if it will be enough. And that way if it would be enough i would not need to get a bigger power supply. my question is how will i know if my power supply can not put out enough power while charging. will the charger send up an error message, will it charge just at less amps, or what will occur for me to know that the power supply is not capable of charging what i am charging.

the charger will charge at the correct voltage, but if you dont have enough power it will charge at a lower amperage...there would be no error messages

If you have a voltmeter, watch the power supply output voltage. If it falls more than 5% from no load to full load, I would get a beefier one.

I had two ICE's and bought the DUO to replace them. Couldn't be happier, I just had to buy the adapter so I could do the update via the PC. The only thing I don't like is the DUO's manual sucks, but the charger itself is very good. Well worth it. I use a Pro Peak 20 Amp Dual Output Digital Power Supply for power and it has no problem doing 2 2S 8000mah packs at the same time.
