Major Headache - 08.10.2008, 05:49 PM

Why is picking the right motor such a pain? Anyways I've been looking to to get a good motor for my emaxx 3905. I want to gear it for 40. My problem is I still want to use the factory batter retaining bar which means 4s lipo. The truck wieghs about 10 lbs ready to go. Motor choices are 1515 1y or 1515 1.5d. I would even do a 1521 1d. I dont really see me going to a 5s setup for a while. What do you guys think about the motor selection?

Going by what everyone else runs, the 1515 1y should be fine. I have a 1515 1.5d that I plan to run on 4s in my erevo. I swapped to mod1 gearing and will run a 17/50 pinion/spur.

Since the emaxx is identical to the erevo, gearing and tranny wise, you could do something similar. Not sure if you will keep the stock 32p spur, or convert to mod1. My only concern is that if you run a high rpm motor that is large in diameter, like a neu finned, you may have clearance issue with the transmission housing.

I run a plett maxx, which is similar in diameter to a neu finned, in my 3095 emaxx. With the 68t spur, an 18t pinion is about the smallest that will fit. Not a problem for me, as I run a 20t pinion. Just keep the motor diameter in mind when chosing the wind. If you try to gear it down it may not fit...

Im pretty sure I will be going to Mod1 gears. 1515 1y is my first choice then the 2d since they are pretty similar in terms of rpm/v.

Check this chart out for help. It makes it easy!!

If you want to run 4S, a 2100 KV motor will approximately give you the equivalent of a nitro engines' RPM range.

This is the appropriate speed for driving on an RC track.

MMM, MGM, Xcelorin ESC's
Tekno Neu "square can" brushless motors
