New project: E-Minibike!

Ok guys, my most weird and outlandish project begins!
As some of you know, I have one of these, with the engine blown up on it:


What I plan to do is buy this motor:

And use the ESC and batteries from this scooter.

The specs on the ESC and batteries are:
ESC: 30-35a cont. (motor only pulls 27a max so I think it should be alright.)
Batteries: (3) 12v 11000mah, in series.
I'll probably use all the stock stuff from the scooter, and may eventually upgrade.

I've done quite a few of these..

I've used this same motor over-volted to 60v and a lighter "mini-bike" (Razor Mx-500) with full suspension. If you're going to use this mini-bike as a frame, I think you'll need a bigger motor.


With the set-up mentioned above I got up to 28 mph. In your bike plan I think you'd probably get 15 mph max out of it. A razor Mx-650 will do that in stock form and costs less than the mini-bike you are planning to buy.

For the 750-watt stuff and a nice controller, go to TNCscooters.com , they have the best deals around. They also offer 1200-watt motors.. Good luck!

my friend has a razor mini chopper and in 2 weeks we are modding it - 2x 4s 4800 lipo (in parallel) a mamba monster a servo tester for throttle (if that works!) and a motor which should work... a qusetion though - generally - is there any way that th monster max wont work - like is there a difference between the MMM and a scooter esc (apart from the controlling thing) like will we damage it in any way? the lipos should be fine, plenty of power, more than the lead acids currently in there....

shoud be fun - for the cost of a motor....

Hey man, if you can swing it financially, use this motor:

It puts out 3HP at 24V but weighs less than 4 lbs. The price reflects the CNC aluminum can and the use of Neodymium magnets. My BattleBots team used them for a spinner-type robot back in high school. These motors rock! The downside- your batteries will need to supply 100A to realise the 3HP rating. I suppose you could mount a 3F car audio capacitor in there to help with acceleration....

jeez. anyone know where to get a 500-1000W dc motor from? suitable for something liek this? what would happen if u tried to use an 36mm xl motor? would it have to be geared down so far or what? i might try it just out of curosity...

2. Shaft WILL break
3. You'd fry it b4 the shaft could break

It seems like there was a thread about this some time ago where someone wanted to use a large outrunner motor or something.

I have done four bikes (sold two and still have two) and learned that RC stuff is simply overpriced and not really functional for transporting people.

tc3_racer: TNC scooters has DC permanent magnet motors up to 1200-watts. That motor is $90. As well, the Yi-Yun speed controller http://tncscooters.com/product.php?sku=101215 works well with this throttle http://tncscooters.com/product.php?sku=101100 and all you need are SLA (sealed lead acid) batteries, which they also sell.

With an intact mini-bike, you can have all of the parts necessary for conversion for under $150.

BL_RVO: the speed controller you wish to use will not handle the draw of even the 750-watt motor. I found that out the hard way..

In any case, once I got tired of buzzing around my neighborhood park at 25-mph, I got this bike:

the problem is i live in australia - so importing is pertty expensive and 90% of the places just wont ship anything. i will be using lipos or dewalt drill packs (37v, 10.4AH capacity.)
