How To Drill Hardened steel

to do the jato pin mod on my revo tranny, i have to drill hardened steel, what kind of drill bit will work?
i've broken many bits titanium bits in fact

Carbite bits w/a cooling agent should work

cooling agent, its an oil correct? or just spray with water?
anyone know what size bit i need for the jato pin mod, i was able to drill one shaft easily but i gave up on the other shaft(that was hardened), but now i break the pin every other run (on the shaft i did not mod)and forgot the perfect size of bit..... DOH!!!

Cooling agent...such as Cool tool. I work w/steel and drill often and a cooling agent is key when drilling hardened steel...it keeps the bit cool.

You might want to read this post again. There is a solution that does not require any drilling of hardened steel...

... i know cooling agent, but ive seen people use water or an oil, they both cool the metal

lol, that's ok. There are a lot of posts to sift through in that thread, so I can understand. But, I recently added a link to the pin mod in the initial post...

Something to think about though, the harder pins might not necessarily be the best choice. harder is often more brittle, and could cause snappage easily.

Not saying its for sure (different alloys can be harder and stronger) but if you use the harder ones and keep snapping them, no harm in trying the others.

For the hardened shafts, I found that using two modded pins works better. It seems they always break near where the smooth part of the pin meets the threads, so that tells me there is more stress there. So, I shortened two pins and threaded them from each side. Not only does this spread the stress across two pins, if one/both break, the threaded part captures them and you don't have broken pieces floating around the tranny. Worked for me for a long time, and is still working AFAIK (RCM member krunk bought my revo a while back).
