Connector -
10.29.2008, 09:51 PM
Hi fellows!
I'm new to electric racing, I've been racing nitro buggy and truggy for the past 4 years and now I'm brushless addict!
I just received my Losi Eight-e with the Losi 4cell pack and I have a few questions for you.
First, I'll probably buy the Hyperion Duo charger with the Ofna 18amp power supply. I also plan to buy 2 or 3 zippy-r pack.
Considering this, I'de like to know what I have to buy to charge, balance both Losi and Zippy-r pack?
The losi pack and ESC come with Losi EC5 connecter. Should I replace it with dean plug or replace the zippy connector with the Losi EC5?
Thx a lot, I apreciate!

Hyperion Duo is one of the best chargers out there. Im not 100% sure but I think the Losi battery uses Thunder Power Balance Conectors (if you post up a good photo on the balance connector I could tell you if it is Thunder Power) Not sure on Zippy though. The EC5 and deans will just be by choice. Whichever you perfer, both are really just as good as each other.

just noticed hobby city is selling traxxas and ec3 copies - doubt they would be original... perhaps they will carry the ec5 in the not too distant future. if they do i will switch to them. (way cheaper :P)

Be carefull changing your lipo plugs, not to short them out. I just diconnect one wire at a time, dissconnect from old plug, slide heat shrink on wire, solder, shrink heat shrink & repeat.

Thx for all your answer guys I apreciate!
I have 2 others questions:
I think the Hyperion Duo come with a multi adapter balance connectors so do I have to buy something else to balance a Thunderpower and JST balance connector?
Is the EC3 from e-flight and the EC5 from losi are the same?
Wich connectors is bigger than the dean?
Thx a lot!

yes you will need to buy an adaptor board which plugs into the charger for both of those. they are around $7 if i am remembering correctly. and yes, always one wire at a time!!!

Bigger than deans:
Traxxas connectors (barely), mainly easier to solder and handle.
Gold plated bullets- 5.5mm-6.5mm will be more than you need.

the ec3 is a 3mm plug while the ec5 is a 5mm plug, the minimum you need is deans or you can bump up to the 5mm, 5.5mm, or 6.5 mm plugs but i still think the standard is deans. i have had no trouble out of mine for years and years.

Thx guys, I think that the Zippy-R come without any plug, so I'll probably get the EC5 for everything even my mamba max Matt Francis 2.
I just ordered a Hyperion Duo with a MuchMore Racing 24 amp power supply and a Align and TP balancer adapter.
Do I need to build EC5 charger harness wire with a banana plug end or the pack will charge with the white connector?..
Also, do you know when Hobbycity is going to have Zippy-R lipo pack back in stock?
thx
